We've had two party's. An 80th birthday & an engagement/farewell party. Both times we've had over 35 guests. Both times we've experienced excellent service with server MAC. Time & time again the food is consistently delicious. Thank you Los Barrios!
Great food! You can tell pride goes into what is served. Staff seemed friendly even though it was busy with large parties. Will make a return visit next time we're in San Antonio.
It was our first visit and it was awesome and our waiter Kevin was always checking on us.. very good service and i loved the chips and salsa we will be back again...
Visited tonight with 13 in our party, including two children with food allergies (all nuts and eggs). We had a great table to the back so we didn't feel like our large party was bothering anyone. The service was prompt and attentive. The owner visited the table and was exceptionally helpful especially with the food allergies. He brought out the chef and she got the children what they wanted to eat with some changes necessary to make the plate safe. I will note for those with nut allergies that this restaurant doesn't use a lot of nuts so this makes things simpler. Our margaritas were good. The food came out quickly and was hot. Everything was tasty. We learned during the meal that the puffy taco is a big deal here (served at the White House, won against Bobby Flay, etc...see news articles displayed in restaurant). One of the kids ordered it and they did love it, more of us would have got it if we had known before we ordered. We also learned from some of the locals (we are not) that this family owned restaurant was quite a personal story. The way we heard it...basically the Mom started the restaurant when her husband died, to support her family. The mom was thereafter helping a neighbor who had a drug problem, and was murdered by the person she was trying to help. Her son and daughter took over the business and have done well, expanding to 3 locations. Moms photo is in the entryway. How can you not want to support this family? I always prefer to eat at local family restaurants, but this tragic story just begs for community support. The mariachi band was there and was great. I know we tipped them but I have no idea how much, tipping is certainly appropriate especially if you make a song request. So while the Mexican food was not the absolute best I've ever had, it was the best we've had in Texas - very tasty and that combined with the nice people, the ambiance, the help with the food allergy meals, and history EASILY gets it to a 5. We recommend. Like this review? Please let us know by liking it! Cheers! :-D
My family has been coming to this restaurant for almost 30 years. The atmosphere isn't great but the food is always good.
The Best Tex, Tex-Mex, and original Mexican food in all of San Antonio. I've been going here for over 30 years.
The food was fantastic, servers were excellent so patient and kind . Our family had a wonderful experience. We hope to return before we return to Michigan.
Tolles "echtes" mexikanisches Essen. Complimentary Nachos all-you-can-eat :-) Allerdings recht laut, aber passt zum Ambiente
friendly staff the margaritas are well made the food was excellent. i love going to los barrios .
We were there last Thursday and had Nachos and enchiladas. Everything was excellent and service was great too. Price was right and House margaritas perfect. We will be back.
Los Barrios has some of the best local authentic Mexican food in San Antonio. They do have the best beef puffy tacos. Their enchiladas are outstanding too. They have wonderful lunch specials and Early bird specials.
Kind of an upscale local Mexican food joint that can handle large groups of people. Patio options as well as inside options abound. Food was pretty good, service was also good (for 24 of us) but a little awkward. Our server just seemed demanding (in a hurry is understanding, but he was really demanding). When all was said and done, all 24 of us were served drinks, food, etc. with ZERO mistakes. I realize this is tough to do so I give them props for that. Food was good but not something I would go out of my way for or tell an out of towner, "dude, we have GOT to go to this place!"
Our group had a cooking technique demonstration of enchilada's, guacamole, chocolate pecan pie. She had years of cooking segments on San Antonio morning television. Her local celebrity resulted in guest cooking appearances on National TV shows as "Good morning America," and the Food Network. They have a Los Barrios Family Cookbook that is sold nationally. The salsa is the best I've ever tasted and living in Arizona I have had some really good ones.
Great food at a good price. Glad we tried it and we will be back.
Had a birthday celebration dinner for my mom and food was fabulous our services was fabulous our server Angel was wonderful and a big thank you to the crew that sang happy birthday to my mom Gloria Bustamante (aka Panchita)Thank you Los Barrios
Your cheese enchiladas are DELICIOUS! I've always eaten something else in the past. I'm finally getting "smart."
Интерьер очень скромный, больше похоже на столовую. Блюда были неплохие, достаточно вкусно. Обслуживание нормально, достаточно быстро
Okay people listen up.. First if you happen to live in San Antonio, I'll trade you lives just to be closer to this restaurant. Second if you're considering traveling to San Antonio I'm assuming you are going to be around the river walk most of your time, because that's what all travelers do.. The thing is, for the foodies who crave delicious lunches and dinners, this is the place! FIRST AND LAST STOP OF EVERY TRIP OF MINE, BEGINS AND ENDS HERE!! If you're traveling alone or with a family and enjoy truly authentic (not generically speaking) family ran and loved Mexican Food, you've got to take a maximum 15 minute drive north of the Alamo to Los Barrios. The food is not pricey, unless you order everything (which I have to) and it's still affordable. Consider your options of either walking downtown on the river walk and paying for okay food but mostly the scenery. Now imagine driving 15 minutes total, parking your car, being sat down with the BEST! and I mean BEST chips and salsa in the world, then ordering some world renown Puffy Tacos (legitimately world renown, Bobby Flay couldn't beat these on the Food Network) and some of the best enchiladas I've had ever, and I live in West Texas close to the Mexico border... As I type this I was just greeted by the owner of the restaurant as he walked around and personally greeted customers asking how everything was going. If you have a love for good food and not just traveling to pay for scenery while you eat, you won't be upset for making the stop. From the bottom of my stomach, and the depths of my heart, I'm in love with this place and continue to fall deeper and deeper with every visit. Make the trip and treat yourselves. With love, J.D. P.s. Foodies? You're welcome..
