We were in Montclair for something else and parked in the deck to which Costanera backs up and saw the sign over the back door. It was lunch time so we walked around the block and looked at the menu, went in and ended up having a great lunch. If you are hungry at lunchtime this is a great place to go. There is a very varied menu and great specials for either $12.95 or $14.95 which include a choice of soup, entree and side. I had the chicken soup and then Peruvian hamburger with sweet plantains on the side. My husband had the vegetarian black bean soup and the oyster po boy with French fries. When we were seated we were treated to some crisp plantain chips and a type of popped corn kernels (but not pop corn) with some green salsa like dip. Even my husband who generally dislikes both plantains and corn thought they were great. We were both stuffed but more than just quantity, the food was delicious and freshly made with quality ingredients. The service was excellent also. We will definitely return. What a nice find.
We never had Peruvian food before coming here but have been to several others since and none come close. Really flavorful dishes with good range of meat and veggie choices. Service is excellent and their recommendations are always worth trying!
I love this place, byob and the food is always delicious
Octopus salad and ceviche were phenomenal...worth the wait, it was fantastic!!!
This. Place. Was. The. Deal! Attentive wait staff. Amazing food. BYOB. The two of us had 3 of the daily special appetizers, ceviche, and a soup. Ceviche, crab cake, empanada, octopus salad, all delicious. Get the Chicken cilantro soup. Huge bowl. Portions are very good, atmosphere is pleasant. Will come back!!!
Love this place, drove about 1 hour to get there, but all worthy. This was our second time at Costanera, love the Fresh seafood, Costanera ceviche is great and yesterday I tried the Fish of the day "Poached Branzino in white wine and fresh tomatoes" it was amazing. Planing my next visit already!!!
Beautiful cozy restaurant in the heart of Montclair NJ. The food is super Delish and the waiters are very knowledgeable about the cuisine, the ingredients and how it's made. Very impressive. Great place to take your spouse or significant other as well as your family. It's a BYOB. I had the steak with fries and a side order of string beans, absolutely delicious and my hubby had the steak with pasta and loved his dish as well. Portion is very larg so you'll definitely have leftovers for the next day. You must try this place. You'll love it!
The service, atmosphere and FOOD were fantastic. First time, but surely not my last. We'll definitely see you soon!
I thought the service was amazing, if you have Alfonso as a waiter then you'll enjoy your entire evening. The food was delicious and the presentation of the food was gorgeous. Each meal was enough to serve two people so my boyfriend and I only ordered Food enough for 1. The chicken soup I ordered was so big it was easily split in two bowls and my god was it good *drool*. We had also ordered an empanada and since we were eating soup, the 1 empanada split in half was enough for both of us. We then ordered the tallarin con bistek with pesto sauce and it was phenomenal. For desert I definitely recommend the Lucuma ice cream! It's like what you'd think a fall yankee candle would taste like, ugh it was amazing. And the Tres leches? So soft and juicy and beautifully presented with the whip cream on top and the caramel drizzled over. Like I said, if you have Alfonso as a waiter, all of your food will be beautifully presented, we could see him cleaning the plate after pouring the caramel on top, making sure everything looked perfect. The interior design of the restaurant is creative and warm, around 5pm they bring out the candles and we just felt so cozy while eating our desserts. IT IS A LITTLE PRICEY, our check came out to around $60 even though we only ordered food for 1 person BUT, the food and experience was so worth it. Definitely recommend and would definitely go again!
First experience trying Peruvian cuisine and I'm hooked! Very friendly, helpful staff, and a cozy atmosphere. The chicken with fresh cilantro and rice soup is a must try. The Peruvian burger is cooked to your liking and very flavorful. Try the yuca fries, tasty!
The food here is great. Come hungry, they serve large portions of heavy food. Staff are friendly. This place has a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Never disappoints. I've been coming here for the last 5 years or so and it's always on point. Traditional Peruvian fare with a twist, friendly staff and ownership. Try the tiradito ceviche!
Wow, after visiting Peru this summer I was craving Lomo Saltado and Causa and this local restaurant cooks these two dishes with excellence! It is a very busy dinner spot so reservations are highly recommended. The atmosphere is rustic, casual and cozy and the staff is very friendly. It is BYOB, however, if you bring your own Pisco they will mix a Pisco Sour for you for a small fee. That's service with a smile for a true Peruvian dinner experience! Highly recommended.
super delicious. Especially the quinoa fish fritters. and our serve Michael is 100/100 ! I'll definitely go back
Great authentic food beautifully presented.
We found Costanera accidentally one Friday night while in town for the ArtWalk.. they had a no-show for a reservation and were able to accommodate us. We were so impressed with the quality and uniqueness of all the dishes we tried. I think we went back at least weekly since then! The ceviche, cod fritters, steak, branding all were outstanding! Love the food and the people are great too!
I mean this place right here was just excellent. We came here on a Friday night with a table of 4 and no reservation and were fit in 20 minutes later. Talk about lucky! The food was delicious we ordered the octopus salad as an appetizer (fits 2 people) and it was fantastic! Very tasty and well prepared. I believe it was a special for the day though. I ordered the chicken and my girlfriend got the short rib special entree. Both were excellent and absolutely delicious. I ordered my entree with the plantain maduro and it was very well prepared as well. Trust me if you have the opportunity order the short rib!!! You will not regret. Another plus is this spot is BYOB whoop whoop! So definitely come here and make a reservation!
First time visitors and pleasantly surprised. Great staff and food was excellent. Would defenitlty return.
