We found this place luckily since we could not find a restaurant close to the Prudential Center, so we Ubered over here after I found it on the OpenTable app. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. A great setting for dinner. The menu featured tons of seafood dishes, and we loved everything we ate. They have a great wine list and they were all great. The staff was friendly and great helping us with the menu. Any time I am in this area, I will eat here.
Another great dining experience with friends. Last year during the holidays were invited by friends who frequent Adega Grill. Although the restaurant is quite far for us we decided that it was worth a repeat visit & second time around was even better. The decore is intimate and inviting, the staff is attentive yet not over bearing. As with our 1st visit, started off with the both the portugués chorizo and steamed octopus appetizer. They were both exactly as remembered, absolutely delicious! The octopus was tender and seasoned to perfection (olive oil & paprika) and the chorizo was very tasty which could alone been a meal. For dinner chose the grilled salted cod which was slightly overcooked which didn't impress as much as the appetizers. They have a nice selection of wine and we all decided on the Herdade Do Esporao Tinto Reserva which was quite good, rich and full bodied. Overall, a great night with wonderful company. Would not hesitate on a chance to go back.
We had a private dinner for about 20 people at Adega back in May. Marco took care of us from start to finish with menu and drink options and did an exceptional job. Our guests are still raving about the paella and shrimp. The chorizo and steak are delicious and the portions are generous! My family can't wait to go back for another get together. It's a beautiful restaurant. Thank you for a great experience, every time.
Came here for a Girls' night out. We wanted something different w/fabulous drinks plus I had just got back from Barcelona, I was still in the mood for Spanish/Portuguese cuisine. I ordered the salmon stuffed with spinach, lobster,& crab was everything! Trust me, its an awesome choice!! The others in my party we're also highly satisfied (see pictures below). And let's not forget about the sangria very good flavor AND just the right amount of alcohol!! We had a great time plus our waitress was phenomenal.
Loved the atmosphere, staff was wonderful & very attentive and our food was outstanding! Paella was soooo good. Can't wait to go back again.
This restaurant has a pleasant, grotto style and quiet, comfortable seating/tables where conversation is easily heard. Service was very professional and cordial. I've never had better grilled octopus, and the portion sizes are generous. I'd happily try any of their grilled fish or meats; I didn't love the stuffed shrimp, kind of mushy filling with no crab taste. However, the sides that came with it were excellent, and I probably just made a bad pick on the menu. The wine list was interesting and well-priced. I'd go back, it was a lovely experience. The Ironbound restaurant area was a surprise, a long-time Portuguese neighborhood in Newark - many restaurants and bars there to try and the immediate area was well-populated and seemed safe enough if you stuck to the main street (Ferry). We used On Time Limousine to get there from the Marriott Airport, and he waited for us while we ate and took us back thereafter, giving us an added sense of security.
Great place to eat for anniversaries, birthday, romantic dinner, or date night. I have also taken the family out to eat there and they have requested to go back. We all love their food and service. My favorite meal is Parillada de mariscos for 2. Great deal and meal! Sangrias are good too! I have recommended all my friends and family there and they have all been pleased.
This place was exceptional so were the drinks!!! The parking was free with a stamped ticket. The service was great and the place was huge! Good music (Sade) was playing in the background! A very nice place to visit'
I've been to Adega more than a dozen times, so it's way overdue for a review! I come mostly solo, on occasion with friends, and tend to sit at the bar to eat (the full menu is available here and many people will be eating full meals). The complex has a long narrow bar area and a more traditional dining room next door; there is a club here as well. I am perfectly content to eat at the bar and watch soccer/baseball/football on one of the multiple tvs. The bartenders will take very good care of you-they work as a team so if you need anything just ask the first one you see and she will be happy to help. The food portions are just astounding with high quality to match. One dish that is my absolute must order each and every time is the garlic shrimp. You get an incredibly mammoth portion that is covered in the best garlic olive oil you will ever have the pleasure of tasting. Save the Portuguese bread to soak up the oil and garlic...this is heaven on earth! I would highly recommend accompanying your meal with the house made sangria which comes in pitcher/half pitcher/by the glass sizes. It tastes wonderful and packs a punch. It's simply awesome. Some main dishes I can highly recommend are the pork and clams Alentejana or the flaked cod fish with potatoes, garlic and onion. I've also recently had the clams casino and salmon. You really can't go wrong with anything here, meat, fish or seafood. Don't forget to look at the full page of daily specials in the menu. They really do change it up everyday and you will find some hidden gems here. There are lovely and strong coffees for after dinner and the desserts come from the Portuguese neighborhood. The selection of liquors from Portugal is outstanding with my personal favorite, Licor Beirão. Get a glass straight up...yummy! They do have wifi that can be temperamental, but everything else is so good, I really don't care. Enjoy this slice of Portugal right here in the middle of the Ironbound.
Great place, nice wine selection with delicious seafood. Great paella, try the monkfish it's great. The halibut was excellent also. The wait staff was professional and attentive. Overall a very pleasant experience
Dined here a few days while traveling on business. Talk about ambience, presentation, and delicious food. The salmon stuffed with spinach, lobster, and crab was everything. Very good choice. I originally purchased the seafood pasta that was in a vodka cream sauce. It was a terrible choice. The sauce was runny and fishy. It tasted nothing like a cream sauce. After I sent it back for the salmon entree, the manager said that most people don't like that sauce, so they usually substitute it for an Alfredo sauce. Wish they told me that before I ordered it. Other than that it was a good time.
Everything was plentiful and delicious with one exception. The appetizer of mushrooms and lobster was delicious but the crab legs were nearly impossible to get into. The little bit I tasted was fabulous but they all were mostly uneaten because the shells were unbelievably hard. They should have cracked them before serving them. The main courses of paella and mariscada were yummy and huge. Lots of leftovers! The desserts were not memorable. The strawberry creme brûlée was not recognizable as anything other than berries and cream. And the strawberry with caramel had no caramel at all. I have it a four overall because the main courses were exceptional but the appetizer and dessert courses warranted only a 3.
Attended my uncle's 60th Birthday Party April 1st at Adega Grill. Started off rather aggravated due to the terrible parking conditions. You could barely make it through the streets because of double parking and God forbid you find a spot it's at least a couple blocks away. Once we got inside we were told that they have their own parking which is also a few blocks away but it's something that should definitely be on the website. Coming into the restaurant to the party area was rather uncomfortable. There's one narrow aisle and you're brushing past people to make it towards the back. If I came here for dinner I wouldn't be happy because you cannot have a private conversation without both set of neighbors hearing you. Once we got back to the party space everything was wonderful. The party space I believe is used as their Lounge at night it has couches they set up a long table and a bar in that area. I started off with the negative but the reason it got 4 out of 5 is because of the food and the service. The waiters were very attentive they served appetizer after appetizer and it wasn't just quantity but the quality of the food was delicious. We had shrimp and garlic which was the best I've had in the Ironbound section. There were bacon-wrapped scallops comma stuffed clams, mussels, pieces of sausage and how can I forget the calamari I have not had calamari that good in years. The calamari was a nice size piece and it could have been tough but they were so tender and the fried when it was so nice. I'm sure I'm missing some other appetizer for there were many. Our meal was paella and steak they have been some confusion about what was ordered and so we had chicken also. We didn't eat the dinner because it tastes good not because we were hungry because it was so many appetizers. They were continuously coming back and filling up our drinks. I don't think anyone left dissatisfied with the meal or the service. We had approximately 30 guests, they had amplification so speeches can be made. There was a constant video going a family pictures and music playing in the background. It was a beautiful night. If you're planning on having a party sans the parking you will be satisfied. If you're coming for dinner depending on the amount of privacy you want maybe not.
Came here for a group business dinner. We had a private room, which was excellent, because we were loud. The menu is very extensive - and hard to choose, there are so many great choices. Adega also has several specials every night. Two people split the seafood platter - lobster, shrimp, mussels, rice - they loved it! We also had a fried whole fish - which was tender and yummy. There is so much food, you'll go home with leftovers!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed or visit. We visited on a Monday and arrived rather early in the evening. I am sure this is the reason we were the the only guest in the restaurant. The waiter came promptly and proved us with some delicious bread with an assortment of olives and tomatoes. Delightful. We ordered the assortment seafood meal for 2. It was Devine. We were able to eat all of the seafood but not all of the rice. For sides we added the veggies (asparagus, broccoli and carrots) which were nicely prepared. Our overall dinner g experience was great and I would recommend this restaurant to others.
Just had lunch on Sunday with my family. Food was exceptional! By the way, one plate gives for two people in my opinion. If you like lobster try the stuffed lobster that's my recommendation. Everyone enjoyed it! By the way, the restaurant has parking on 98 Madison Street, Just remember before you leave to validate your ticket.
O lugar é agradável, só é um pouco apertada a parte do bar em si. As atendentes além de lindas, falam português e são super simpáticas e atenciosas. A comida é saborosa, principalmente os tira gostos. Variedade de drinks e aperitivos. Vale a pena conhecer.
The food is great for late-night. For earlier dinner there are better places for food as well as wine. However the place is super pleasant and worth the visit.
A carta de vinhos é muito boa e tem opcões para todos os bolsos, atendimento impecável tbm, O frango churrasco é uma opção barata e gostosa, saladas também são bem servidas.
I visited Adega for the first time in Dec and had a wonderful time. Food was excellent and the service first class. Appetizers were fabulous and as big as a normal entree. The entrees were very good and served in a stylish manner. Sangria was good and plentiful.
