Excellent! Exactly what I was looking for. This is what every New Orleans visitor needs to experience
My wife and I have been here twice in the last year, and both experiences were drastically different. The first time would've been 2 stars. The difference for our second visit was actually buying the right item on the menu: THE GUMBO. It sounds like a no-brainer given the name of the restaurant, but we had the shrimp and black fish po-boys last time and found they tasted like nothing. This time, we had the 2 different types of gumbo on the menu, and THAT was worth waiting 45 minutes for. Also, Michael is the best waiter here, hands down. He checked on us frequently, kept our water filled, and was overall a very pleasant person to talk to. He even noticed us looking around at the other dishes trying to figure out what they were, and proceeded to explain each dish we saw while they were being placed on other tables.
Beautiful place, Delicious food (dairy free, gluten free and vegan options!!!) and very reasonable price!
Excellent food and service. The price was just a little high for the quantity but not for the quality
Best gumbo & jambalaya!
Great food and also great service. The place was packed, but we still received our orders in a reasonable time. The chicken espagnole was AMAZING!
Get here early and come hungry. Loved the Gumbo, Crawfish Etouffee, and bread pudding. Nice wait staff - very efficient!
I choice this place cause it was one of the top places for gumbo which I’ve never had before. It was delicious and only cost $10! The service was fast as well.
PROS: Amazing food, good prices, reasonable wait time, great service. CONS: To crowded and noisy.
Our favorite casual dining experience in the Big Easy!
This restaurant has the same repetitive dishes around the rest of the Quarter, but it's clean and always good. I usually go here a couple times per year.
Great food and service. ,
Family really enjoyed the gumbo and I enjoyed the shrimp creole for the first time. Our first time visiting New Orleans
When they say Gumbo shop...THEY MEAN IT!!! If anyone's shopping up Gumbo better than this, then i'd like to meet em!
I had the smothered half chicken with mushrooms and garlic mashed potatoes, enjoyed every bit of it. Service was courteous and timely. Would recommend to everyone.
We really wanted to have dinner in Gumbo Shop even though it was a crowded evening and we were out with our 6&4 year old boys. It took over half an hour to get in, but it seemed everybody in was having a good time. Once getting in the table, waitresses seemed busy, but Jamal ! 👍🏼😍 told he’s going to come to us shortly. He was awesome! He understood our rush to feed our kids and took our whole order right away. I don’t know how he’s doing it without making notes (my husband ordered everything in one breathe), but within an hour the kids got their orders, we got our four course meals and I got my margarita down the belly. Very happy with the flavors, even the 6 year old liked everything (no kids menu needed!). Only complaints from our younger boy: the ac was too cold (after being in the sun)! But I guess we learned to provide them with long sleeves next time. Thanks again, Gumbo Shop!
Stumbled upon this place in the FQ and so happy I did. The gumbo was just what I needed with some warm bread on the side! Prices were very good too! Everything was delicious.
We’d been out all day and was looking for somewhere to eat early on in the evening. We found this via TA and it looked close enough to where we was so over we went. There was a queue, it was 630pm but we got sat straight away as we were only 2 people. We saw when we left that the queue had become crazy, stretching out the door onto the street, it was 730pm by then. Anyway, we went for the traditional meal which combined jambalaya and creole on one plate. We also had the praline sundae, and have to say both were great. Our server was great as well making the whole experience one we will remember with much fondness
Greet place for gumbo , nice courtyard for eating outdoors, authentic Nola gumbo since 1945
